We reply within one business day. No long contracts.
Payroll looks simple from the outside: pay people, withhold taxes, file the right forms. The reality is that payroll mistakes are the most expensive small-business mistakes you can make. A missed 941 deposit triggers IRS penalties within 30 days. A misclassified contractor turns into a back-payroll-tax assessment with interest. A wrong state-unemployment account number quietly accrues penalties for two quarters before anyone notices.
For new payroll we set clients up with a trusted local Denver-based payroll provider we know and rely on. If you already run payroll through another service, we work with what you have. Either way, we own the back-end work the platform does not do: registering for new state withholding accounts, setting up local taxes, fixing classification errors, and walking you through what every line on the year-end W-2 and 1099 actually means.
What is included
- Bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or weekly payroll runs with direct deposit to employee bank accounts.
- Federal payroll tax deposits (Form 941, Form 940) filed on time, every time.
- State withholding and unemployment filings in CO and any other state where you have employees.
- Year-end W-2 prep for employees and year-end 1099-NEC prep for contractors.
- New-hire reporting and onboarding paperwork (I-9, W-4, state forms).
- Garnishment and child-support order processing.
- Workers comp audit support — we provide the wage reports your insurer needs.
Pricing
| Headcount | Monthly fee | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 employees | $120 – $200 | Twice-monthly payroll, all filings, year-end forms |
| 6–15 employees | $200 – $350 | Plus multi-state filings if needed |
| 16–50 employees | $350 – $700 | Plus dedicated support, garnishments, audit prep |
Pricing covers our payroll management. The payroll provider's platform fee is billed at our partner rate, which is typically lower than retail.
How we onboard new payroll clients
- Discovery (15 min): headcount, pay frequency, states, current platform.
- Setup week: we open or transfer your payroll platform, register any missing state accounts, and import employee data.
- First parallel run: we run the new payroll alongside your old process for one cycle to confirm net pay matches to the penny.
- Cutover: from week three onward, payroll is fully on us.
Misclassifying a regular contractor as 1099 when the IRS would call them W-2. The cost is not just back payroll tax — it is interest, penalties, and unemployment assessments going back three years. We run a 20-question classification check on every contractor at onboarding so you never inherit this risk.
If you have 1–3 employees and a simple bi-weekly schedule, a basic payroll plan plus our quarterly review is usually enough.
If you have employees in two or more states, hourly + tipped staff, or contractors getting reclassified, full-service payroll pays for itself.
If you are running payroll out of QuickBooks Desktop or a spreadsheet, migrate before year-end — January W-2 chaos is avoidable.

Frequently asked questions
Which payroll platform do you use?
For new payroll setups we recommend a trusted local Denver-based payroll provider we've vetted — clean onboarding for employees, integrated benefits, and reliable filings. If you're already running payroll on another platform, we'll work within it. We make the recommendation at the discovery call based on your headcount and complexity.
Can you handle multi-state payroll?
Yes. We register for state withholding and unemployment accounts in any state where you have an employee, file the periodic returns (CO DR-1093, etc.), and reconcile at year-end. We currently run payroll in CO, WY, NM, KS, TX, FL, AZ, and CA for active clients.
What about contractors and 1099s?
We track contractor payments throughout the year, file Form 1099-NEC by January 31 for any contractor paid more than $600, and provide W-9 collection if needed. We also screen for misclassification — a 1099 contractor who should have been a W-2 employee is the single most expensive mistake we untangle.
Do you handle workers comp audits?
Yes. When your workers comp carrier requests a year-end audit, we provide the wage report broken down by class code. If we are also doing your bookkeeping, we make sure subcontractor payments are excluded correctly so you do not get re-rated.
Can you help with employee benefits?
We integrate with health insurance, retirement (Solo 401k, SEP-IRA, SIMPLE), and HSA platforms through your payroll provider. We do not sell benefits ourselves, but we coordinate with your benefits broker so deductions, employer contributions, and reporting are correct.
Most clients use four of these together.
